Executive Director Update: Tuesday Update on Temporary Campus for Grades 7 & 8

Who this affects

This update is specifically for our 7th and 8th grade families, who would be attending our temporary site at the Mulberry Boys & Girls Club while our permanent building completes construction. All other grades are on campus and on schedule as usual, and there's no change for those families.

Where things stand

We want to be transparent with our community about where we are. We're in the final stretch of getting the Mulberry site approved for use, and we already have most of what's required in place. What remains is our county health certificate, which depends on two final items:

  • A radon test

  • A written statement from the Mulberry building department confirming the facility is approved for use as a school and meets Florida Building Code Section 468 standards

Once both are complete, we can finish our health inspection and open the doors. We know this isn't the start to the school year any of us hoped for, and we appreciate our families' patience as we work through it.

What's left, and the timeline

The radon test takes a minimum of three business days once it begins, so our timeline depends on how quickly the building code approval comes through:

  • Best case: We receive building approval tomorrow and start the radon test immediately. If so, we'd have results back by Monday and could potentially open as soon as Tuesday.

  • Worst case: The building department is unable to approve the facility. If that happens, we'll move to an alternate location; we're already identifying backup options in parallel, so we're prepared either way.

Keeping learning on track in the meantime

Regardless of which scenario plays out, our 7th and 8th graders' learning continues without interruption:

  • Blended learning will be in place at least through Monday of next week.

  • Each day begins with a 1-hour morning meeting, where attendance is taken and students join a whole-group meeting together.

  • Teachers are sending Google Classroom invitations directly to students for each day's classes, and updates will be sent through the Middle School Remind (for parents only)

  • Students will need their school email to access Google Classroom.

  • In-person office hours are available Thursday and Friday, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, in our resource room, for any student who'd like in-person support.

Any student having trouble logging into their school email or Google Classroom can message Ms. Falgas on Remind, who will connect them with our IT support, Martin.

We'll keep you posted

We're committed to keeping our families informed every step of the way, and we'll share the next update as soon as we know more. Thank you for being part of this community and for your trust as we work to get our students settled into a stable, permanent home this fall.
